Connection and relationship define me and also define the pottery I make. My connection to the world around me, and the people in it, makes me who I am. I feel a strong sense of history – for this reason, I am always drawn to things from the past. Things that have their own history and have stood the test of time.
Clay is like that. It has its own history…in a way, clay is a bridge from the past to the future. In the pottery process, there is an intimate relationship between the maker and the piece. My hands touch each part of the clay as it moves under them, creating relationship so that the piece already has a history, even though it is newly created. I want my work to communicate that sense of connection, to begin its relationship with others, to create memories.
For this reason, I make pottery pieces that are classic, comfortable, and enduring. I hope that they will be used and loved, a part of your daily life and your own history. Pottery to come home to.
