Martha Johnson is a former nurse and a self-taught mixed media collage artist. She draws inspiration from the natural world around her and from the words of many authors, and is always intrigued with color and texture. Her collages are predominately composed of paper but also include fabric, dried plant materials, paints, photographs, stamps, and found objects. She uses as many recycled, repurposed materials as possible. She finishes her smaller works with an inspirational or humorous quote. She feels lucky and grateful to have work that she thoroughly enjoys.
Martha shows her work in art festivals from Pennsylvania to Georgia and in various regional and national galleries. In 2014, she moved from the Outer Banks of NC to the Asheville area. When she isn’t working in her home studio, she sneaks off to enjoy the garden, a mountain vista, or maybe even a community dance.
