Joyce Wood

This is the first time I have entered my pieces in a juried show. My relationship with clay has spanned 40 years. When I worked for Delta in Atlanta, I took classes for 3 years in my spare time and studied hand building and throwing on the wheel. Usually I gave my pieces away to friends. After a very long break, I was lured back 2 years ago to continue my study at The Harvest House. It was there I began producing flower vases. That same summer I participated in The Uncommon Market and sold vases and flower bouquets. My vases are rustic and the perfect companion for glamorous dahlias. In my opinion the vase should be simple and not distract from the flowers beauty. This leads me to tell you about my dahlias. My dahlia garden is also at the farm where I build my vases. There are about 80 dahlias in varied shapes and colors. Some are from store bought tubers and others are gifts from the bees. I’ve harvested seeds and started lovely originals. During the tour one can select dahlias to complement their vase. The farm is in a beautiful setting in Little Sandy Mush.
