Fantastical art from my imagination. I work with all mediums, but painting has always been my go-to. I have been creating more 3d elements in my work lately. My work may or may not reflect what is around me. I prefer to create from my imagination and see what comes out of the subconscious. My work has been largely figurative and architectural but has strayed towards nature, wildlife, and the afterlife. The unknown is extremely interesting and mysterious to me and I aim to achieve mystery and wonder in my technique. Saunders current work features mixed media fantastical artworks with a focus on acrylics, collage and wood cutouts. Multi-layered colorful work that is expressionistic, but very detailed. She creates works that have a hidden object feel to them, lending to mystery and wonder in the imagery. Along with her paintings, Saunders will have handmade switch plates, prints, stickers and cards available.
Suzanne E. Saunders was born in upstate New York, and raised in Leicester, North Carolina. Her family goes back many generations in the Asheville/Leicester area.
Graduating from UNCA in 1993 with a BFA in her pocket, she moved to New Orleans and began selling her paintings to tourists and locals alike. Vibrant and surreal, her work consists mainly of acrylic and collage on wood and canvas, as well as murals. Saunders art has featured many elements of New Orleans and dream-like landscapes; however, she is truly a painter of all things.
Suzanne spent her youth in Leicester and 24 years in New Orleans, and recently returned to Leicester where her work has become influenced by nature's surreal beauty. She currently resides in Leicester with her husband Ashley who is a sculptor. Her work can be found online at www.suzannesaundersartwork.com and facebook/suzannesaundersartwork, and in person at Trackside Studios in the River Arts District in Asheville and at several gallery locations in New Orleans.
